INGLEWOOD.

MAGISTRATE’S COURT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) August 30. A sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held at Inglewood on Monday, Mr. A. Mowlem, S.M., presiding. Mr. H. Thomson welcomed the new magistrate, and expressed the desire of the legal practitioners of Inglewood to render the execution of His Worship’s duties as pleasant to him as possible. He referred to the good feeling which had always existed here between Bench and Bar, a condition that he had every reason to believe would continue. His Worship suitably replied.

After several civil cases had been disposed of, the charge Police v. Shaw,<f or carrying a pistol, was heard. Constable Longbottom stated the facts, and defendant was convicted for having, unlawfully, a pistol in his possession and fined £lO, the pistol to be confiscated* Charges for driving without lights between sunset and sunrise were preferred by Constable Longbottom against F. S. Fabish (fined £1 costs 7s), Wm. Buckthought (£1 costs 7s f. M. Herlih ( £1 costs 7b), and Thos. Guthrie ( £1 costs 7s). In the case of the inspector of apiaries v. R. Zimmermann, defendant was fined £2 and costs 7s. Mrs. W. Baker obtained an order against Thomas Baker for 10s per week for the maintenance of his child. GENERAL NEWS. Another point was scored for this district last, week in the competition for the supply of choice dairy cattle to those parts of the Dominion in which stock are scarce. The score was made by the Farmers’ Co-op. Association, through whose agency five truck loads of Jersey cows and pedigree bulls -were sold on account of Inglewood district clients to go as far north as Helensville. The cattle have, been .carefully selected by competent judges of the requirements of the coiintry to which they •will be sent, so that with this, as has been the case with former consignments, local breeders may rest content that the great name given to this centre for being able to supply outside demands of dairymen, will bp honorably maintained.
