BERNARD SHAW.
UPSETS THE BULGARIANS. i Vienna, July 4. “Arms and the Man” came into conflict at the Viennese Schloss Theatre, attached to the late Imperial Palace. Schoenbrunn, during the production last night of Bernard Shaw’s comedy of that name.
Various Bulgarians living in Vienna had assembled in force to protest, against what they considered the national inSults against Bulgaria made by Mr. Shaw in the course of "his play. Although the management, who had wind of what was afoot, attempted to appease Bulgarian wrath by a soothing preliminary speech, it was of no avail. When Raina boasted of his library, claiming it to be the only one in Bulgaria, there was an outbreak of shouting and yelling, which delayed the performance. The. police had to eject several people. At the commencement of tbe second act there was another outbreak. Major Petkoff was remarking that he could not understand Western extravagance with soap and water, and comparing it with Bulgarian economy in these matters, when the whole .Bulgarian crowd was on its feet once more protesting.
