NEW SOUTH WALES POLITICS.
OPENING OF PARLIAMENT. FINANCE AND LEGISLATION. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyrigtt Received August 30, 8.20 pan. Sydney, August 30. The State Parliament opened with the usual ceremonial. The Governor's Speech said the country was passing through a period of economic adjustment, but there were indications that normal conditions, so far as Australia was concerned, were lieing gradually regained. The speech declared that Mr. Storey’s visit to London resulted in enhancing New South Wales’ financial stability there, and the success of the Premier's mission would be apparent in the improved financial arrangements which the State would be enabled to make.
New legislation foreshadowed includes the endowment of motherhood, an amendment of the Lunacy Act, the establishment of a Government Insurance Office, and amendments of the Early Closing and Liquor Acts. It is also promised that economy will be the keynote of the Administration.
Received August 30, 9.30 p.m. Sydney, August 30. The Government has appointed sixteen new members from oxer 200 aspirants to the Legislative Council, ten of whom were selected by an Australian Labor Party ballot, including a brother of the Premier (Mr. Storey) and a brother of Mr. McL. Girr (Minister of Health), the remainder being well-known Labor men. The new members were sworn in and took their seats.
Received August 31, 1.30 a.m. Sydney, August 30. In the Assembly, Mr. Fuller secured an adjournment, intimating his intention to move a motion of censure on the Government. The grounds were not disclosed.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
