EMPIRE WIRELESS CHAIN.
FIRST LINK OPERATED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—copyrlglU. London, August 18. Mr. F. G. Kellaway (Postmaster-General) opened the Leafield wireless station, the first link of the Imperial wireless chain. Another station, now in the course of construction at Banbury, will be used in conjunction with the Leafield station. Mr. Kellaway sent the first message in the form of greetings to the British stations within range trusting that the station would help to knit still closer the bonds binding the different parts of the Empire. (A cablegram of July 24 said: According to the Daily Chronicle, /when the Leafield power’ station is opened in the autumn, the Imperial wireless chain will be completed except at Cairo, where the buildings and apparatus are now ready. The Leafield capacity is estimated at 7,000,000 ‘ words yearly. When Cairo is opened, Leaj field will transmit to Australia via Singaand Port Darwin./
