FARM AND DAIRY.

The value of the British wheat crop for 1920 is estimated at £31,000,000.

Germany is buying seed potatoes freely in England. The steamer Golfer of Methil sailed for Bremen with 300 tons of seed potatoes on April 7. A second cargo follows with the Rattray Head, and two other cargoes are also booked, the whole amounting to about 900 tons. The potatoes are being sent to the order of the British Relief Credit Committee.

“A good many of the cows the farmers of New Zealand are at present milking would be far better in tins,” declared Mr. R. F. Bollard, M.P., at Hamilton last week. Many dairy farmers, he added, were at present wasting their time, labors and pastures through milking inferior stock, and he thought it was very essential that the Government should encourage the importation o-f good cattle of proved milking strain. He also thought that when a cow was culled out of a herd, a Government stamp should be put upon it to prevent its sale to other dairy farmers, perhaps of lesser experience, who were unable to judge the quality for themselves. Many such animals had, he regretted to say, been palmed off at sales on to returned soldiers who had had no previous experience of r arming or stock.
