THE NEW SOUTH WALES TOUR. VICTORY OVER NORTH AUCKLAND. SEVENTEEN POINTS TO EIGHT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Whangarel, Last Night. The New South Wales representatives, in the initial match of their New Zealand tour, decisively defeated the North Auckland representatives at Whangarei to-day by 17 points to 8, showing superiority in all departments of the gaone, except in the forward ruck, where the North Aucklanders held their own. The visiting backs were excellent in combination and perfected attack. At half Walker (captain) was responsible for tne majority of passing rushes. All through the visitors shone conspicuously in the finer points of the game. Nothling, at full-back, was a particular star, turning defence into offensive on numerous occasions.. The outstanding forward player on the day was C. Fletcher, of the locals. At half-time New South Wales was leading by 6 to 3, Wallace having scored an unconverted try and Lowden kicked a penaltj’ goal, Fletcher landing a penalty for the northerners. In the second half for New South Wales Lowden placed a penalty goal, Stanley odtained a try, which he converted, and Carr scored, which was not augmented. The final stage saw Weston, a northerner, cross xne line and score cleverly and add the major points, bringing the northern total to 8. The visitors were accorded an enthusiastic reception everywhere and general appaluse for their fine exposition of the game. CANTERBURY v. WAIRARAPA. A WIN FOR CANTERBURY. Masterton, Last Night. Canterbury defeated Wairarapa to-day in fine weather on a heavy ground by 8 points to 3. The game was not brilliant, but very fast and exciting. Early iu the game Matson kicked a penalty goal for Wairarapa. who were having the best of play, Canterbury being frequently on the defensive. Blazey scored for Canterbury and Orchard converted, tire spell ending: Canterbury 5, Wairarapa 3.

The second spell was characterised by vigorous forward play. Henry landed a fine penalty goal for Canterbury. Orchard (the Canterbury full-back), played a great guune, including a fine effort to get a goal from halfway. Mullins, the Cummings brothers, and McCully were also prominent. For Wairarapa Q.
