COURSING.
TARANAKI CUP MEETING. OPENING TO-MORROW. Tho coursing meeting which 1 opens at the Taranaki Coursing Club's Plumpton, Glenavon, Smart Road, to-morrow, and continues on Saturday, promises to be easily the most successful yet held by the club. The Taranaki Cup, for which substantial stakes are offered, has attracted tho best in Australia and the Dominion, and as the hares are in good order the coursing should be good. Already a number of visiting dogs have arrived, no fewer than eighteen coming in one train yesterday. These include Jew’s Hope, winner of the Australasian Waterloo at Hamilton this week, and also Mr. Fraser Smith’s Malster, runner-un at the Waterloo run at New Plymouth last year, and an Australian dog, Achieved First, purchased by the same owner. Mr. Brown, of Dunedin, also brings Happy-Go-Lucky, another Australian dog that has just chartfeed hands, and others. Among other Australian dogs present, will be Pegatty, who has already won over £4OOO in stakes, and was the favorite for tl:e Waterloo. Messrs. Hughes and Lewis, of Nelson and Blenheim, arrived yesterdaj 7 with their dogs, whilst Mr. J. Hannon arrives to-daj 7 . Mr. Jas. Coombes and Mr. Victor Foy, of Australia, are also making the trip to New Plymouth. The pick of the Taranaki dogs will also be seen in action. The officials of the club have made complete arrangements for the gathering, which promises to be a record in every way.
