WELL-KNOWN RIDER INJURED, / BAY LUPIN DESTROYED. Christchurch, Last Night. L. Hagerty, a well-known Canterbury horseman, had a fall at Rlccarton to-day while schooling Bay Lupin. Ho was removed to the Christel:urch Hospital, where it. was found that although ho had sustained an injury to the spine, his condition is not dangerous. Bay Lupin broke a leg and was destroyed. OPUNAKE CLUB'S ANNUAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of members of tho Opunake Racing Qub was held on Saturday evening, Mr. A. Good presiding over a large attendance. The annual report of the committee stated that the past year was in every way a successful ono for tie club, and the entries were up to the usual standard. The tntalisator handled £33,802 —a record for the club. Additional horse boxes wCre erected, making a total of 29, the whole of which were engaged. A number of small paddocks had also been provided. The committee provided accommodation for 50 owners and trainers, the caterers providing meals at the racecourse for three days prior to the meeting. The up-to-date semaphore Installed had given entire, satisfaction, particulars of cad: race being on view promptly. The recommendation from last annual meeting to reduce the issue of complimentary tickets, had received careful consideration. The committee agreed that tu reduce would be to offend, and it. was de cided to discontinue tho issue of compHmentaries altogether. Official passes were issued to the officials of kindred clubs only. The results proved tho action of the committee to be a wise one, the gates realising £995 as against £441 the previous year, the totalisator investments showing an increase of £3832. An application for an additional day permit was submitted 10 tl>e Racing Commission, who met the committee at the race-' course. During the year three members had resigned, and, owing to failure to meet, their subscrip.ions, 18 members were struck off. Tho club's architects had been asked to submit plans for the concrete terraces which were, to face the new bandstand, and this work would be proceeded with at the earliest opportunity.

Tho balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £1912 8s 7d. The result of the past year’s transactions were most satisfactory. After providing for improvements £783 14s sd, maintenance and repairs £39, a balance of £473 8s lid was loft.

In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the president, Mr. A. Good stated that there was still a lot to be don® and urged members to render every possible assistance. The practice of paying subscriptions aby old t ime had passed, and the payments must now be in the hands of the secretary prior to November 1 in each year. He expressed pleasure that the report of th" Racing Commission recommended a second day’s permit for Opunake. Mr. F. Julian seconded the adoption, which was carried without discussion. The secretary reported that the nominations for die officers only equalled the vacancies, and declared the following officers elected for the ensuing year: President, Mr. A. Good; vice-president, Mr. J. M. Hickey sent.; committee, Messrs. J. P. Burton, D. Campbell, F. Carter, E. S. Forsyth, G. Hammond, D. Harrop, F. Julian, S. J. Richards, J. Young; hon. treasurer, Mr. G. Barr Brown; auditor, Mr. D. Markham. Messrs. A. and A. R. Stevenson wcro elected new 'members. The president and Mr. Young expressed their satisfaction at the- results attained by the non-issue of ciunplimentary tickets. Th<» latter stated that; in view of the Racing Commission’s recommendation re better provision for spectators, he would recommend that the committee increase the admission to tho lawn to 10s. If given effect to, this would assist to provide revenue for the improrements required. A short discussion took place relative to the extra racing day recommended by the commission, as to wliether it would be advisable, if granted, to hold the meeting on consecutive days or otherwise.—lt was resolved to leave tho matter in the hands of the committee. Mr. Forsyth’ suggested that the committee should appoint a second clerk of the course, so as to facilitate tho getting out of horses. It was resolved that It bo a. recommendation to the committee to provide for control of traffic leaving the course.—Star.
