TO-DAY’S REP. MATCH. ' TARANAKI .CANTERBURY Probably more interest will centre in the . meeting of the Taranaki and Canterbury representative teams at Hawera to-day than In any other interprovincial fixture set down for decision in Taranaki this year. I We know of several keen followers of the (game who consider that It Is high time drastic measures were taken to suppress deliberate rough Dla| Mid net allvr dean sport to
be marred by such methods (saya the Hawara Star). Grave exception was taken by many spectators, hitherto good friend* of tho Okaiawa Club, to the tactics of some of the players in that club’s tea>m on Saturday, and tl’o display of the offenders lost the club several good friends. Rugby, it should be remembered, is a very fine game and is meant not only to strengthen the muscles and keep its players fit, but to develop character and self-control. It is not meant to take the place of the fighting ring, nor to provide opportunities for the display of maliciousness, and those players who will not “play the game’* should be definitely left out of n team. The Rugby Union wants only good, clean sports to play the game.
