The middle-weight boxing championship is in dispute following on an extraordinary bout between Bryan Downey, of Columbus, and Johnny Wilson, of Cleveland, fought at Cleveland. The boxing commission and sports writer- declare that Downey won by a knock-oat in the seventh round of the scheduled twelve-rounds no decision bout. The referee (Jimmy Gardner), however, declared Wilson the winner on a foul. Wilson was knocked down three times in the final round. The first time the referee only counted nine, while the timekeeper says Wileon was on the floor for thirteen seconds. The second time the referee again counted nine, whereas the timekeeper says Wilson was out*eleven seconds. When Wilson woe floored the third time his manager jumped into the ring and tried to hold him up. but Wilson fell. The referee counted seven and then stopped the bout, saying Downey struck his opponent when down. A hundred spectators leaped into the ring and attempted to hit the referee, ' whereupon the boxing commission announced Downey the winner.—Aus.-NX Cable Assn.
