A LINK OF EMPIRE.
CANADA’S IMPORTANT ROLE.
INFLUENCE ON UNITED STATES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. .Received July 29, 8.5 p.m. London, July 29. The Canadian Club entertained Lord Byng. Govern or-General elect. Sir James Allen was present. General Sir Arthur Currie, proposing the health of their guest, said Canadians . consider themselves the inheritors of all the British traditions. Canada is a i maritime nation in the middle of the world’s movements and it is conceivable she may become the pivot round which the future of humanity will turn. She lis the direct link connecting the Mother ; Country with Australia and must pre- : serve the currents of life between them. I Orientals are suspicious of European j countries and it is Canada’s task to interpret British civilisation to them and to interpret the Mother Country to the United States.
The Duke of Connaught, replying, trusted that Canada would retain a warm heart for the other great Domin-ions.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
