LETTERS TO A GIRL.
OOMPLAINT AT THEIR NATURE. By Telegraph —Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. At the Police Court Robert Wilson, a laborer, single and 44 years of age, was charged with having left an indecent publication at the house of a suburban resident He was arraigned on a similar charge under the Indecent Publication Act in respect to a second letter written by accused to the daughter of the resident.
Counsel said he would formally proffer a plea of not guilty, as he desired to argue the question of law, stating that whikt his client’s letters might certainly be classed as insulting they were not indecent within the strict meaning of the Act. The police said neither the girl nor her sisters knew the man.
Accused was fined £2O and placed on probation for five years.
