At the beginning of Mav he had been advised by an Auckland firm that thev tfere putting ground raw phosphate on the market at £7 15s per ton, but owing to reasons which he could not then go into the supply of phosphates from Nauru had been delayed, and iu was only recently that cargoes had come to hand. Dr/Reakes explained hoy the companies had had to make theii arrangements in regard to supplies and shipping months ahead, and that the more costly rock phosphate had been coming to New Zealand until just recently.
