MIDDLESEX’S FIRST DEFEAT. BBAMN BY SURREY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Cooyrljl't. Received July 20, 5.5 p.m. London, July 19. There was an exciting conclusion at the Oval, when Surrey won by 10 runs. Middlesex made 350 (Stevens 78 and Lee 82). At one stage Middlesex were 153' for two wickets, and then four wickets fell for 6 runs. Fender took four wickets for 125 runs, and Hitch three for 84. The Victorian Cricket Association gave permission to its players to participate tn Iho benefit match between tho Australians and the next best In January, for Frank Iredale, an ex-international player. The association also sanctioned a unatch between the Victoria and English amateurs at tho request of the New Zealand Association.
