AN INCREASE SINCE 1914. BRITAIN HEADS THE LIST. MARKED GROWTH IN U.S, By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright Received July 19, 10.30 p.m. London, July 18. Lloyd’s Register of shipping shows that the world’s tonnage, of iron and steel steamers is 54,217,000, compared with 42,514,000 in June, 1914. The United Kingdom has 19,288,000 tons, compared with* 18,877,000; the United States has 12,314,000, compared with 1,837,000; Germany has 654,000, compared with 5,098,000; and Japan has 3,063,000 compared with 1,642,000. The number of vessels fitted with internal combustion engines has increased from 21)0 to 1447, aggregating 1,263,000 tons. Vessels using oil fuel for boilers have increased from 364 to 2536, aggregating 12,797,000 tons. The Register records the names of 33,206 vessels, aggregating 61,974,653 gross tonnage.-—* Aus.-N.Z.
