HEAD BADLY BATTERED SUGGESTION OF MURDER. ‘ 4 ''' - By Telegraph.—Prasa Association. Auckland, Last Night. A case, the circumstances of which point to murder, is being investigated by the police. The body of a youth, almost 20 years of age, named Francis Edward Jew, was found dead about eleven o’clock this morning on a vacant section at Grey Lynn, Arch Hill, with the head badly battered. The section is covered with blackberry and brambles. The body was foundein a track used as a short cut. Deceased's father, John Henry Jew, is a carpenter residing at Grey Lynn, Arch Hill. A blood-stained paling was found near Jew’s body. There are two large wounds on the back of the head, one just above the forehead, one just under' the nose and one just below' the rightr ear, all indicating that he had beentf, struck by the paling. The fact that antf overcoat was found across his suggests there had been no and there are no other indications o& such. Jew left home at mid-day on Satur-' day aud attended a football match, returning to Grey Lynn, but not home/, with five others at 5.30 p.m. He was’ last seen alive at 8 o’clock last nighto near the scene of the tragedy. A mystifying fact is that although it rained heavily during the night his clothes &re| quite dry and no footprints are visible.* Deceased was a grocer’s assistant im a shop 200 yards from the scene M the tragedy.
