ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
CRUSHED BY A TRAIN. Ry Telegraph. - Pres? Association Auckland, July 9. At the inquest on John Sinclair Irvine, who was crushed beneath a train at Ellerslie, his eon gave evidence that deceased was 61 years of age, and was employed by the Northern Steamship Company, DEATH UNDER ANAESTHETIC. Wellington, July 9. An inquest was opened this morning concerning the death of Oliver Scott, who died in the public hospital following the administration of an anaesthetic. Evidence was given by deceased's brother. who said deceased informed him that he had taken poison in mistake for distilled water. Tho Medical Superintendent stated that deceased showed signs of heart failure after taking the anaesthetic. Efforts to restore him failed. Prior to the administration of the anaesthetic the heart appeared to be normal.
Jas.’McLellan, a fellow employee, said Scott informed him that he had taken poison by mistake. He had no reason to believe that he had taken it intentionally.
The coroner remarked that the cause of death was quite clear, but he adjourned the inquest for further evidence.
