The quarter’s revenue was £304,168,000, of which Customs contributed £28,345,000, excise £44,996,000, stamps £2,697,000, property and income tax £6,390,000, excess profits tax £17,114,000, corporation profits (new tax) £2,020,000. Customs decreased £39,254,000, telephones decreased £lOOO, excise increased £6,789,000, property and income tax increased £10,162,000, compared with the corresponding quarter of 1920. FRENCH POPULATION DECLINING. Paris, July 1. The census returns give the population of France as 36,000,000, excluding a large number of troops in Rhineland. The figures represent a decrease on the 1911 of 2,3oo,ooo.—(United Service.
