ANGLO-JAPANESE TREATY. « MODIFICATIONS EXPECTED. TO MEET AMERICA’S WISHES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. Received June 2S, 8.45 p.m. London, June 28. The Australian Press Association learns that diplomatic circles believe the Japanese treaty will be renewed in a considerably emasculated form in order to discount, American feeling on the riu'bject. It is understood a hint has reached the Government from a source that cannot be disregarded that America would view the renewal of the treaty, unless modified, as an unfriendly act. N.Z. Cable Assn. QUESTION OF POSTPONEMENT. ALARM IN JAPAN. London, June 27. The Australian Press Association learns that the Foreign Office cabled a fortnight ago to Japan asking that the date of the decision as to the Anglo-Jap-anese alliance be postponed for three months. It is not known whether a reply has been received, but it is credibly reported that Japanese political circles are greatly disturbed and alarmed at the Signs of growing opposition in London to renewal.
