BOATS TO AUSTRALIA.
REDUCTION IN SERVICES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. Sydney, June 24. Owing to the falling-off in trade and the increasing expenditure it is stated that important changes are pending in the New Zealand and Hobart steamship service out of Sydney. Though nothing definite is announced it is rumored that the Union Company and Huddart, Parker and Company are arranging for a ten days, instead of a weekly, service from Sydney to Wellington, Sydney io Auckland and Sydney to Hobart, beginning next month. It is also stated that Welligton boats will make Sydney their terminal port and not proceed to Hobart, in consequence of the new Navigation Act, which will operate on all boats running in'the inter-State trade.
Melbourne. June 24. Referring to the proposed reductions in the shipipng services Mr. Appleton, on behalf of the inter-State Ship Owners’ Federation, stated that the increased expenditure involved in conforming to the Navigation Act made it impossible for ship owners to maintain the same services at their present strength. A reduction in the services between Sydney, New Zealand and other ports was inevitable.
