HOKITIKA SITTINGS. By Telegraph —Press Association. Hokitika, June 24. In the Supreme Court, Mr. Justice Herdman was engaged from 10 o’clock in the morning till after midnight hearing the claim of W. 11. Robinson, timber agent, of Christchurch, against Robert and Margaret Whiley, sawmillers, of Kohatahi, for alleged breach of agreement for £2550, in connection with the sale of the output of defendants’ sawmill. After two hours’ retirement the jury found for defendants on all issues. Judgiflent was deferred to enable the law points to be argued. There is no criminal -business set down. GISBORNE SESSIONS. Gisborne, Last Night. A claim was made to-day at the Supreme Court by Koru Arahu Matete against the Uawa County Council, in respect to the death of his boy, who was killed whilst jumping off a county motor lorry returning home from school. For the defence the non-suit point was raised that the father had sustained, no pecuniary loss. Mr. Justice Reed upheld the contention, non-suiting plaintiff. It was disclosed in a case before the Supreme Court that witnesses' expenses in connection with the trial of a youth charged with a series of thefts and issuing valueless cheques totalled £lB3. The youth pleaded not guilty in the lower Court at Port Awanui, but before Mr. Justice Reed pleaded guilty. Ten witnesses had been brought distances ranging up to 122 miles, through railless country. Prisoner got two years’ reformative treatment.
