ALLEGATIONS OF A RING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, May 31. Allegations of a combine in the iron trade were made during the hearing by Mr. Justice Hosking of a claim by A. R. Heslop, Ltd., against the Addipgton Ironroiling Mills, Ltd., for £597 damages for breaca of contract. In a letter, Mr. Geo. Booth, chairman of the defendant firm, dated July 27, 1918, expressed regret that the agreement must be terminated with plaintiffs owing to the demand of wholesale iron firms who threatened to discontinue buying unless Addington ceased selling to plaintiffs, who were charged with having cut prices. Plaintiff replied, describing the action as a boycott by a ring which was exploiting the public. The case is proceeding.

WANGANUI SESSIONS. Wanganui. Last Night. Charges of alleged embezzlement against George Beckett, late secretary of the Wanganui R.S.A.. were concluded to-day. The total involved was about £ i 37. Accused was found guilty on several minor charges among the eleven counts in the indictment and not guilty on the two principal charges involving £6l and £27. He will be sentenced tomorrow. The jury added a rider recommending accused to the greatest possible leniency, in view of the. fact that laxity in the financial administration of the club encouraged, if it was not conducive to, irregularity.
