ASIA’S RIGHTS.
MAY LEAD TO WAR. BETWEEN JAPAN AND AMERICA. STRUGGLE OF THE PACIFIC. By Telegraph.—Press Aosn.-—Copyright. Received May 31, 8.10 p.m. New York, May 31. A former Senator, Mr. J. H. Lewis, speaking at a memorial service at Glenellyn, Illinois, predicted war with Japan, with uie latter backed by America's former allies.
“The United States has no friend in Europe,” said Mr. Lewis, “and must be vigilant and watchful against tricks under cover of friendship, perpetrated by nations which, though accepting our sacrifice in blood and money, have neither sense of appreciation nor gratitude.”
Mr. Lewis added: “Japan is just coming into consciousness of power, and Asia will demand, and the Allies will insist that America should grant, citizenship privileges. The Allies will not dare to refuse, because of commercial entanglements. The younger generation will see a Pacific struggle to decide whether America is to be the first nation of the world or is to go down under an Asiatic stroke, backed by the Allies.”— Aus.-N.Z.
