AVIATION DISASTER.
MAJOR ROSS-KILLED. AN AVRO NOSE-DIVE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. Melbourne, May 23. An aviation mishap resulted in Hubert Ross, principal of the Shaw, Ross Engineering and Aviation Company, and Cyril Harris sustaining fatal injuries. Ross was piloting two passengers on a pleasure flight in an Avro aeroplane, which nose-dived, the propeller becoming entangled in electric light wires whilst the machine was being righted. Jessie Dorman, who was injured in the aeroplane accident, has succumbed. The machine suddenly dived from a height of 200 feet and fell into a backyard. A boy playing in the yard had a. narrow escape. Major Ross, one of the victims, served throughout the war in the Royal Air Force. The theory is that the aeroplane struck a current and dropped, but had insufficient space beneath to soar again. Ross’ body had "to be cut out of the debris.
