MOTOR-CYCLE FATALITY.

A YOUNG MAN KILLED. COLLIDES WITH TELEGRAPH POLE. A motor-cycle fatality occurred in New Plymouth on Saturday, resulting in the death of John James Cavaney, aged 19, who resided with his parents in Hine Street. Cavaney sustained severe injuries through crashing into a telegraph pole on the South Road, 'and died in the public hospital at 6.45 p.m. The scene of the accident was near the South Road - Belt Road junction, and Cavaney was proceeding towards the breakwater at about 4.30 p.m., in company with another motor cyclist named Blanchett. There is a tram loop in the vicinity, and a tram car was on the loop, proceeding in the direction of town. Cavaney drew over to pass the tram, and was on his correct side, but just afterwards crashed into a telegraph post on the side. Cavaney was thrown some yards as the result of the impact, sustaining a fracture of the left arm and left leg, and severe injuries to the head. He was removed to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. The motor cycle was badly damaged, leading to the conclusion that the machine had struck the post head on. An inquest will be held to-day by the Coroner (Mr. C. A. Orr Walker, S.M.)
