PRISONERS AT LARGE.
ESCAPE FROM WANGANUI GAOL. MOVEMENTS NOT TRACED. Advice was received by the New Plymouth police, on Saturday of the escape from the Wanganui gaol of two men, Robert G. Allen and Edward Donovan, who were the central figures in the recent bnrylarr shooting affray at a grocer’s shop in Wanganui, and who were last week committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Up till a late' (hour last night no advice had been received of their capture. The latest mes* sage from Wanganui indicated that the men’s movements had not been traced. The escape was made at five minutes past one on Saturday afternoon. A few minutes before disappearing the men had been released from a cell and put into a locked i»;i" o. and they forced the door of this passage, using a portion of a bed. Both the escapees were young men, being in the early twenties, and ■ .' pre wearing civilian clothes.
Donovan is sft, 7Jin. in height, of dark complexion, with dark brown hair, brown eyes and long nosel He wore a dark’ grey suit, grey cap. and brown shoes, with thick rubber soles.
Allen is sft 4Ain.. of fair complexion and fair hair, with light brown eyes and medium nose. He was wearing a blue suit and had no cap. His boots were black, with patent leather toes.
