MARKETING OF PRODUCE.
CONDITIONS IN ENGLAND. VISIT BY MR. GOODFELLOW. An announcement that Mr. William Goodfellow, managing director of the New Zealand .Dairv Company, Limited, will visit England to investigate market conditions, was made by the chairmn,n of directors, Mr. W. Claud Motion, at the annual meeting of suppliers at Netherton this week. He stated that Mr. Goodfellow would endeavor to improve the conditions of sale, and regulate the supplies in the market, so that a glut would not oqpur. On his way Home, he would go through Canada, and would have opportunities of furthering the interests of the company.
Dealing with the affairs of the company during the period of the purchase of butter by the Imperial Government, Mr. Motion said, that through lack of organisation in the Dominion, the Home Government was able to buy to advantage, but the amalgamation of suppliers improved the position. Investigations were made in Canada by the. directorate, as a result of which the company received an offer of fid per lb for a 2000 ton lot. This had the effect of producing a better offer from the Imperial Government, which meant a total increase of £450.000 to the company’s suppliers, and an increase also for the whole Dominion.
Mr. Goodfellow gave some interesting figures in regard to the increase in output. There had been a total output of 12.600 tons of butter, an increase of 2200 tons over last year. Cheese had decreased from 6100 tons to 5600 tons this year.
