Mr. Barnes has resigned the leadership of the Nationalist Party.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn. PILLAGING CARGO. Received May 19, 11.30 p.m. Sydney, May 19. Giving evidence before the commission inquiring into cargo pillaging, De-tective-Inspector Den el in said he was satisfied robbery was carried on to a serious extent. He had many times seen cases of supposed cargo when opened contain bricks and ashes. He had seen in the holds of vessels, most of which came from Wellington, evidence of pillaging prior to arrival.
