WAGES REDUCTION.

The United States Railroad Labor Board at Chicago decided that the prevailing conditions justify to an extent yet to be determined the downward readjustment of the wages of carriers’ employees. The decision affects scores of railways who were making an appeal prior to April 18, and. it was handed down a few hours after the conclusion of the hearing. The decision was not expected for several weeks, and took both employers and employees by sur-prise.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

The anthracite miners carried a resolution to join forces with the bitumenous miners in formulating polities for negotiations for new wage contracts till March 31, 1922. The consolidation of half a million miners will be thus effected to present a solid front to the owners.
