SAVING TO WANGANUI.
The Taranaki Chamber of Commerc< has for some time been moving in th< direction of interesting Wanganui in shipping certain of their lines via -New Plymouth instead of Wellington. The following letter has been despatched <tc the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce bj the Taranaki Chamber:—
We would like you to draw the at tention of those of your members in terested, that there is a steamer loading salt at Liverpool in June, direct for Nev Plymouth. We believe that there is * substantial saving to Wanganui buyers in using this route. We estimate the figures at under:—
From U.K.—Well- From U.K. New ington to Wanga- Plymouth to Wannui per. ton ganui per ton. £ k d. £ s. d. Tranßhlpplnß Wh a K f a. g e at Welling- and sortton and b Ing 5 1 special Well- Railage (rats ington Im- half class E • ifcovem ent plus 40 per rate (a. cent) 1 1 t least) 6 0 Sea freight 1 4 fl Marine Insurance .. 10 Wh ar fag e and sorting at Wanganui 5 1 £1 16 1 £ 1 6 7
For salt required for agricultural oi pastoral purposes, the railage is 7s 3d per ton less from New Plymouth, thus increasing the saving by this amount. By the .New Plymouth route there is but the one handling, the goods being discharged from the ship into the trucks, as against three or four handlings via Wellington. Furthermore, we feel confident that importers will be assured of a quicker despatch through New Plymouth.
