WANGANUI NOTES.

(By "Moturoa.”)

Concluding training operations at Wanganui on Tuesday and Wednesday were favored by splendid weather, but little light was shed on to-day’s probabilities. There is a good number in town for the meeting, and a great gathering is certain. Slowcoach, as the result of a bad exhibition on Tuesday, has eased a trifle In favor for the big steeple- , chase, but he usually shapes more generously with the colors up, and may be expected to run well to-day. Luke appears to be very fit, as are Foeman, Mattock and Khartoum, and provided he gets round safely the latter is likely to give the no? *”>rner a good race. Coalition is reported to an unlikely starter owing to the death, at Juasterton, of Mr. F. E. Riddlford, a cousin of the owner. The Century Hurdle Race is still a puzzle, and Fisher, Multive, Lord Nagar, Omaha, Old Gold and All Talk are freely discussed in connection with the event. Fisher is probably the best stayer in the bunch, and It remains to be seen whether list 31b will stop him to-day. The Connolly Handicap should see Malaga, Kiigour and Tame Fox in strong demand, but Amber Tips may upset the hotstuff brigade at the finish. Listowel is galloping so brilliantly rhat all Wanganui will be on him in the Borough Handicap, and the writer is a bit with them. Blndle, Mustard Pot send Bonny Briar may all be dangerous, the last-named in particular. Zola is a ball of muscle at present, and the kindly way he has taken to the big fences suggests that he will be one of the toughest propositions In the Hack Steeples, though Pawerewere and Vigilo will also have good followings. Hyginas comes with a big reputation from Hawke's Bay, but will find Prince Hal hard to shake off In the Hack Hurdles. PfTnce Hal Is a bold fencer, but the older horse's experience may beat him to-day. Admiral Codrington galloped in fine style on Tuesday morning, and should start favorite in the Purua Hack Handicap.
