In the House of Commons, Mr. Arthur Henderson moved the repeal of the in« come limit provisions of the Old Age Pensions Act in order that thrifty pent hioners would not be subjected to a poverty test. He admitted that this would involve additional expenditure of £13,000,000 annually. Mr. Henderson succeeded in carrying the closure against the Government, but with the aid of the Coalition whip an amendment declaring the reform inopportune in the present state of the finances was carried.—Aus.N.Z.
