MEETING ESSENTIAL SERVICES.

The Board of Trade announces that the Government has arranged for the importation of coal to ensure the maintenance of services essential to the life of the community, and will take measures to provide for the movement, of coal imported, not for private profit, but to meet the people’s vital needs. Any coal privately imported will -be liable to be deliverei. in the national interests.
GASWORKERS UNSETTLED.
London, May 11. The Transport Federation announces that the Gasworkers’ Union and other trade unions have informed them that members have been suspended for refusing to work coal which was unloaded by volunteer labor. The federation has no power to advise non-affiliated unions, but. its own members having given proof of loyalty to the mihers, the transporters are confident other unions will refuse to handle foreign coal. The railwaymen and transporters will have a conference on the matter on Fridav.
