A SUGGESTED CONFERENCE. WITHOUT RESOLUTIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. Delhi, May 7. Raza Ali, who recently asked Gandhi to stop non-co-operation temporarily to give the new Viceroy a chance, has given notice of a resolution, which he proposes to move at the next session of the Council of State: That a conference attended by members of the Government and representatiyes of all schools of politcal thought, including the leaders of the non-co-operation movement, should be convened early, under the presidency of the Viceroy, with a view to the free discussion of political questions and that no resolutions be adopted by the conference and no minutes kept. LORD READING’S POLICY. Delhi, May 7. Replying to an address by the Simla municipality, the Viceroy (Lord Reading) referred to the situation confronting the of India. He said that, despite th4<uspicou6 start towards self-government within the Empire, there was a disregard and defiance of authority in certain quarters giving cause for serious thought and anxiety. The Government could not permit direct incitements to violence leading to loss of life, and would deal with them under the criminal law.
Referring to the Turkish Treaty, he said that information reaching him led to the hope that the proposed alteration would satisfy the claims of sentiment felt by Indian Moslems.
