The Defence Bill its having a troubled passage through the Senate. The chief objection, which was strongly voiced by a number of returned soldier Senators, was to the application of the British Army Act to the Commonwealth in peace time. In view of the strong hostility, the Government withdrew this clause of the Bill.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
