FOOTBALLER’S DEATH.

DUE TO HEART FAILURE. ACCIDENTAL COLLISION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. An inquiry into the death of A. Aitken, a member of the team, which occurred during the progress of a match against Christchurch on Saturday, was held yesterday. The evidence showed that deceased, who had not played football since 1908, complained of feeling unwell after tackling an opponent, and retired. He was attended to by a member of the Ambulance Brigade, who applied methode of resuscitation, but without effect. The Coroner’s verdict was that death was due to heart failure, accelerated by the violent exercise deceased was engaged in at the time of the accident. It was further found that there was no rough play, and no apparent breach of the rules, and that the collision that was the immediate cause of the collapse of deceased was purely accidental and unintentional.
