THE WELLINGTON REGIMENT.
RE-UNION OF OFFICERS. Palmerston North, April 24. Over 100 officers from all parts of the Dominion attended the second annual re-union dinner of the Wellington Regiment, N.Z.E.F., at Palmerston North, on Saturday night. Colonel Cunningham occupied the chair, and was supported by Colonel (formerly Brigadier-General) C. W. Melvill, Officer Commanding the Central Military District. The gathering was a iriost sociable and enjoyable one, atfd many of those present took the opportunity of recalling some very amusing incidents. Speaking in more serious vein, some of the senior officers emphasised the importance of keeping the association alive, as, with changes taking place in India, there was always the possibility that the services of trained officers might be required. Those present expressed their readiness to obey the call of duty whenever it might come. The toasts honored were: “Absent Comrades,” “The Territorial Regiments,” and “Other Units of the N.Z.E.F.”
On Sunday morning the officers attended a memorial service at All Saints Church, where Colonel Melvill unveiled a memorial which has been placed underneath the flags of the Wellington Regiment, which were deposited there last Anzac Day to the memory of Colonel Malone and Lieut.-Colonel Cook, twoi members of the regiment who had paid the supreme sacrifice. Occasion was also taken to unveil three stained glass memorial windows, two to Captain Harding and Lieut. B. B. L. Porter, members of the Wellington Regiment, and the other to Captain J. D. R. Hewitt, R.N., and W. Avery, old members of the church.
