GOLD FOUND.
REEFS OF GOOD PROMISE. SUCCESS ON WEST COAST. By Telegraph. —Pre'”? Association Reefton,-Last Night. Mr. Downey, Inspector of Mines, has just retu ned from an inspection of a new quartz reef found four miles from Maruia Road and 18 miles from Reefton. He confirms the richness of the quartz, which i« in good solid country. Samples brought to Reefton show over a hundred ounces per ton, and all the quartz shows rich gold. A reef five to seven feet wide, has been opened up for two chains and two other reefs of 14 feet and 3 feet 6 inches were found a little distance away. These are not so rich but all are highly payable. Mr. Downey considered the find the richest stone to be got south of the line. Other claims were pegged out and applied for. ’the find is in new country where quartz was not supposed to exist.
