Archbishop Mannix, in a further interview, denied that he stated that the Pope asked him to condemn the alleged Sinn Fein outrages in Ireland, that he ‘ refused the Pope’s request, and that | when he informed the Pope of the real situation in Ireland the Pope said, "the British policy in Ireland is shocking.”— Reuter Service. TWO CONSTABLES SHOT. A BANK SEIZED. London, April 20. As the result of an official inquiry it has ft been decided to arraign 18 cadets on charges of arson and robbery. Armed men on February 24 held up a train for two hours between Dublin and Balisodare. At Sligo Constables Kelly and Hetherington were taken from a train and shot dead. The police and military have taken charge of the Hibernian Bank, Dundalk, in which it is alleged that ratecollectors’ cheques, which were seized on April 14 by armed men, were deposited. The manager, who refused to disclose customers affairs to the police was arrested.
SINN FEINER SHOT. London r April 20. O’Sullivan, a prominent Sinn Feiner, who served on the Coroner’s jury inquiring into M'Curtain’s death, was shot at Cork last night. He was a man of splendid physique. He was called upon to halt? but fan and the police pursued. O’Sullivan dashed into a house and tried to escape by the windows of the back room, and was shot dead while dropping to the ground. EMIGRATION PROHIBITION. WINDOW SMASHING IN LONDON. Landon, April 20. Dail Eireann has issued a proclamation forbidding any citizen of the Irish Republic from emigrating, and ordering shipping and emigration agents to refuse to accept passage, money. Those disobeying will be deemed guilty of a serious offence. The Sinn Fein window smashing campaign in London has attained alarming proportions. Five hundred outrages were reported yesterday, the domage amounting to many thousands, including 160 windows in Stoke Newington. It is believed women are concerned in the outrages, which are carried out at night and are difficult to detect.
