BRITAIN’S RESERVE ARMY.

Laborites and others strongly criticised the expenditure upon the reserve army, which would be utilised to counter the strike. Mr. Hooge said the step might be regarded as a declaration of civil war. Mr. J. R. Clynes (Leader of the Parliamentary Labor Party) urged the immediate disbandment of the force. Sir Robert Horne (Chancellor of the Exchequer) said the reserve army was jeosting rather less than £1,000,000 weekly.
