RAILWAYMEN’S GRIEVANCE.
MARRIED CASUALS DISMISSED. By Telegraph Association Taihape, April 18. At a special meeting of the Taihape branch of the A.S.R.S., held yesterday, a resolution protesting against the numerous dismissals of married casuals to make room for the recently arrived unmarried immigrants, was adopted. It was pointed out that 80 per cent, ot the men employed on maintenance were casuals and train running had been dependent upon them. One man had done ten years service, had had a son killed in the war, and has an invalid wife to support. The department’s action is viewed as intolerable.
