Mr. Arthur Dickenson, who has been a member of the staff of the New Zealand Loan and -Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford, for the past eleven years, is leaving the company’s service to join the business of his father-in-law, Mr. R. H. White, in the men’s clothing department. On Saturday morning, Mr. W. A. Hewitt (manager), on behalf of the staff, made a presentation to Mr. Dickenson and referred to the high esteem in which Mr. Dickenson was held by himself and the staff, and expressed the regret of all that he was leaving. The King’s Cinema Theatre was crowded last night, when a sacred concert was given by the talented Lubowski family as a benefit to Mr. Tom Roberts. The programme was well received, all the performers being warmly aplauded for their items. As a result of the performance a good sum will be available to hand over to Mr. Roberts. The executive of the Dr. Steven valedictory social has decided that the balance, amounting to £l2 12s, should be handed over to the Roberts fund. Mr. E. M. Gatton, of Turakina, who was formerly farming in the Stratford district, met with an accident last Saturday week. He was picked up unconscious alongside his motor cycle near Turakina. As he had not regained consciousness, according to latest information, no account of how the accident occurred is yet available. The motor cycle was badly smashed and Mr. Gatton’s condition was so serious that it was considered unsafe to remove him to a hospital. He is at present at his home at Turakina. Up to the present there are no indications that the Borough Council elections are to be keenly contested, as it is understood that several of the retiring councillors do not desire re-election and only three new candidates are announced up to the present. The nomination will close with the town clerk on Wednesday. The annual meeting of the Stratford Returned Soldiers’ Association will be held in the Parish Hall on Thursday evening at 7.30 o’clock. A number of matters of importance will be discussed, and it is hoped that a large number of members will attend. STRATFORD GUN CLUB. The Stratford Gun Club held a members’ shoot on Messrs.
