THE HIGH SCHOOLS.

MEETING CjF THE BOARD. The monthly Meeting of the New Plymouth High Schools Board was held last night. Present: Messrs. L. C. gladden (in the chair), H. Trimble, J. S. Fox, A. E. Washer, F: W. Atkinsqn, L. A. Nolan and S. G. Smith, M.P. Leave of absence was granted to Dr. Fookee and Messrs. E. P. Webster and A. Morton. It was agreed to lease Mr. W. J. Penn’s house on the Avenue Road for two years in order to provide additional accommodation at the boys’ school. The committee set up at last board meeting to go into the question of musical tuition were granted leave to defer their report till next meeting. The chairman's action in appointing Miss Joyce Wilson as relieving teacher at the girls’ school, in the place of Miss Burrows, was confirmed. Mr. F. J. Eggleton was granted 14ave of absence in order to undergo an operation.

The board’s architect reported that work on the sick-room at the boys’ school, had been recommenced.

The farm balance sheet was tabled. It was regarded as very satisfactory, and was adopted. Miss Barr (principal of the girls’ school) reported that work was progressing favorably, and that the school roll now stood at 251.
