WHEAT CROP SURPLUS.

PURCHASE BY GOVERNMENT. REPORTED TO BE UNDER CONSIDERATION. Christchurch, April 12. The purchase of the wheat crop surplus by the Government is reported to be under No authoritative statement can be obtained, but the matter is being freely discussed by farmers and others interested. A scheme is under consideration, it is sain, whereby the purchase can be effected. If it is carried into operation, the Government will take over all 4he surplus of the new wheat crop atr ruling rates, which previously had l/zen fixed at from 7s 6d to 8s a bushel, with a monthly increase of 3s 4d per bushel from May 1 next. The idea of the purchase ia to relieve fanners of a surplus of which they have been unable to clear themselves, and to assist them financially. It is submitted that the present stringency \in commercial circles should be relieved if the purchase is carried out.
