THE BUTTER SUBSIDY.
A TEMPORARY MEASURE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Questioned how long the butter sub-'' sidy of threepence would be continued the Prime Minister said definitely that) it was a temporary arrangement to carry them over the time taken by thqnegotiations now in progress.
POSITION IN DUNEDIN.
Dunedin, April 2. The Board of Trade has notified grorfi cers that it does not consider an in-r crease of the butter prices justifiable, as the wholesale price is not up. Th® grocers reply that they were notified that the price on April 1 would be 2s 4d wholesale. Nevertheless the grocers voluntarily reduced the price to 2s 3d, believing further developments were coming. Factory managers state that a wire came from the Imperial Supply Department, that the wholesale price) has been fixed for some days at Is llAd* and that the 1920 Order-in-Council i. 4 still in force. The upshot at Dunedin is that whereas factories sold for two hours at 2s 4d they did business for t'he. rest of the day at 2s Ojd. A conference is announced to be held at next Wednesday.
