SWIMMING.

NEW PLYMOUTH CARNIVAt. VISIT OF AUCKLAND CHAMPIONS. Swimming sports, under the auspices of the New Plymouth Swimming Club took place on Saturday afternoon, and passed off very successfully. Leading Auckland swimmers, Miss Smith and Messrs. J. Enwright and G. Champion, competed in a number of events, carrying off several prizes and also gave splendid exhibitions which contributed materially to the success of the carnival. The programme included a relay race for the Grey Cup, and this wfte won by a team from the New Plymouth Hoys’ High School after a good tussle. The* New Plymouth Club championship was won by R. Person. Though not qualified to compete, Enwright was a starter in this race and finished first some seconds ahead of the other swimmers. Judging was carried out by Mr. A. R. Standish, Mr. F. J. Eggleton acting as starter. The general management was in the hands of Mr. R. Day (chairman of the management committee), and Mr. E. Clarke (secretary). The visiting swimmers acted as judges for the living. The results are:— 50 Yards Men’s (Open) .—First heat: B. Boon (4sec) 1, E. Coleman (ssec) 2. Second heat: Foden (4sec) 1, Grant (Hawera) and D. Sykes dead heat 2. Third heat: Enwright (scr) 1, Rickard (ssec) 2. Final: Enwright 1, Foden 2. Time, 33%sec. Two Lengths, boys under 16.—K. Taylor 1, Penman 2. 50 Yards, girls under 16.—E. Christian 1, J. Cleaver 2. 33 Yards, girls under 12.—M. Cleaver I, J. Stone 2. 50 Yards, ladies.—Miss Smith (Auckland) scr 1, Miss G. Mouat 2. 100 Yards New Plymouth Club Championship.— R. Person 1, K. Ewing 2. Time, 74 sec. 75 Yards, ladies.—Miss Smith 1, Miss Mouat 2. 220 Yards’ men’s.—'Champion (ser) 1, Grant 2, Foden 3. Diving, ladles.—Miss Ekdatl (Hawera) 1, Miss Smith 2.
