AUSTRALIA v. ASHBURTON. FIRST DAY'S PLAY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Ashburton, Last Night. There was perfect weather for the opening of tut Australian-Ashburton County match. The wicket was soft, but drying after rain overnight. Ashburton batted first, Ockleskaw and Boddington being the only two to stand up to the bowling. The "tail” disappeared rapidly when Iremong'er and Hornibrook were on, Ashburton being all out for 183. Australia passed the local total in four and a half hours before drawing stumps/ Liddicutt gave a great display all round the wicket, including two sixes and fourteen fours. Asher was the only one to stay long with Liddlcutt, the partnership yielding 97. Scores:— ASHBURTON.
