AWAKINO ROBBERY.

SUGGESTION IN THE HOUSE. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, March 17. Reference to the recent robbery atj Awakino, in which mofiey belonging toj the? Public Works Department stolen, was made in the House of Re< presentatives this morning by Mr. W. T 3 Jennings (Waitomo), who asked the Min 4 ister whether it would not be to have the employees of the department paid by cheque, as was done by othet departments. This would obviate necessity of taking large sums of money into lonely country places. It would also relieve officers of the department of the need of going sometimes fift/ or sixty miles to pay out ten or fifteen? pounds. Mr. Coates said he would be to look into the matter to see if thej suggestion made was feasible.
