BOROUGH ELECTIONS.

RATEPAYERS ACTIVE. MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. Matters in connection with the forth* coming municipal elections were discussed at a meeting of the executive of the New Plymouth Ratepayers' Association last night, and it was decided t(i call a meeting for Tuesday of representatives of the Fitzroy, Westown, Vogeltown and Frankleigh Park associations, and the Chamber of Commerce, when business in connection with the elections will - be reviewed. The meeting also carried a resolution suggesting to the Borough Council “that in view of the many issues to be put before electors at the forthcoming polls the proposal regarding the raising of the rate of interest to 6 per cent in connection with the hydro-electric loan, be taken at a separate poll, and on a date earlier than the municipal elections.” In support of the above it was pointed out that the questions to be voted on already make quite a number of ballot papers to be dealt with by voters, i** as besides the selection of Mayor and councillors, representatives for the Bar- , bor and Hospital Boards have to be elected. A poll is also to be taken otr the half-holiday question, and the association contends that with all these issues the programme for one day is quite big enough.
