NELSON BAND CONTEST.

NELSON GATHERING. By Telegraph.-—Press Association. Nelson, Last Night. The B gradb contest, in which ’0 bands are competing, commence! last evening. Results are: BB flat bass: Rodgers (St. Kilda) 87 points, 1; Ferry (Invercargill) 86, 2; Mockler (Nelson), 85, 3. Euph’onium solo: T. Ovens (Gisborne City), 94, 1; J. McClintock (Woolston), 93, 2; J. Lowe (12th Nelson Regiment), 86, 3. At the annual meeting of the South Island Bands Association correspondence was received from the North Island Brass Bands Association suggesting .one big combined contest to be held annually in the North and South Islands alternately. It was eventually resolved that no action should be taken. The president (Dr. Thacker) was reelected. The' vice-presidents were Selected, with the addition of Messrs. W. W. Snodgrass (Nelson), J. J. Corry (Blenheim), W. Grace (Invercargill), A. Payne (Christchurch), Dr. Noble Adams (Blenheim). Treasurer, Mr. Staples (reelected); secretary, Mr. Hall; executive, re-elected. The decision as to where the next contest is to be held "was left to the executive. Timaru was the only applicant. Notice of motion was given that the music for the quick-step competitions be a band’s own choice. Nelson was congratulated on the success of the contest. The bands were entertained at a garden party this afternoon.
